IN THIS TERM, LEARNERS SHOULD LOOK OUT FOR THE FOLLOWING IN DETAIL: 

Week  1.

Theme 1: Understanding the writer’s purpose to persuade, inform, convince

Theme 2:  Identify outlines from the given story or passage .

Theme 3:  Revision of sounds:- Vowels:- /a/, /e/, /I/, /Ͻ/, /u/.

Theme 4: Parts of speech:- nouns and pronouns.             

Week  2. 

Theme 1: Understanding the writer’s purpose in a passage e.g. to irritate, annoy, please and entertain.

Theme 2: Arrangement of ideas in logical sequence.  Write appropriate introduction and effective 

conclusion.

Theme 3: Revision of sounds:- Consonants:-t, g, k .          

Theme 4: Identify features  and functions of verbs. 

Week   3.

Theme 1: Reading for meanings of words in various context through  clues provided by

      surrounding words. 

Theme 2: Types of composition :- Narrative - Identify a narrative composition .

Theme 3: Vowel sounds: - /i/ and /i:/ 

Theme 4: Adjectives :-Identification of adjectives from given passage .

Theme 5: Literature: Nigerian and African folktales:- Identify features:- didactic, entertaining, magical, riddles.

Week  4

Theme 1: Identifying the meaning of words in various contexts through use of alternative words that can fit into the context. 

Theme 2: Type of composition:-Descriptive

Theme 3: Vowel sounds:-/Ͻ/ /Ͻ:/

Theme 4: Parts of speech: - conjunctions.            

Theme 5: Popular myths/ legends:-African and non African         

Week  5:

Theme 1: Type of composition: argumentative :-List elements of composition 

Theme 2: Vowel sound: /Λ/ and /ə/ 

Theme 3: Identifying prepositions from selected passage 

Theme 4: Literature: Short story               

Week  6.

Theme 1: Identify main points and major sub- theme of selected passages:-Identify opinions in selected passage. 

Theme 2: Format of informal letters:-Situations used.

Theme 3: Consonants /dƷ/ and /tʃ/.

Theme 4: Structure: future tense             

Week 7

Theme 1: Listening and speaking: consonants /k/ and /g/.

Theme 2: Grammar/ structure: verb: transitive and intransitive.

Theme 3: Listening and speaking: consonants clusters.

Theme 4: Grammar/ structure: classifying adjectives

Week 8

Theme 1: Reading: identifying meaning of words in context. 

Theme 2: Writing: guided composition 

Theme 3: Listening and speaking: consonant /n/and/ŋ/                 

Theme 4: Grammar / structure: verb: irregular verb
